Zixiang (Edward) Xiong

Edward received the Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering in 1996 from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

From 1997 to 1999, he was with the University of Hawaii. Since 1999, he has been with the Department of Electrical Engineering at Texas A&M University, where he is an Associate Professor. He spent the summers of 1998 and 1999 at Microsoft Research, Redmond, WA and the summers of 2000 and 2001 at Microsoft Research in Beijing. His current research interests are distributed source coding, joint source-channel coding and genomic signal processing.

Dr. Xiong received a National Science Foundation (NSF) Career Award in 1999, an Army Research Office (ARO) Young Investigator Award in 2000 and an Office of Naval Research (ONR) Young Investigator Award in 2001. He also received an Eugene Webb Faculty Fellow Award in 2001 and a Select Young Faculty Award in 2002, both from Texas A&M University. He is currently an associate editor for the IEEE Trans. on Circuits and Systems for Video Technology, the IEEE Trans. on Signal Processing, and the IEEE Trans. on Image Processing.
